KRAUTZ & LEHMANN

1)    Martin KRAUTZ, Sr., b. 29 Oct 1866, DOBBRICK, Brandenburg, Germany

2)    Anna LEHMANN, Krautz, b. 17 Jan. 1863, wife,  DRACHHAUSEN, Brandenburg, Germany

3)    Maria KRAUTZ, daughter, b. 24 Mar 1887, DRACHHAUSEN

4)    Martin KRAUTZ, Jr., son, b. 1 Sep 1888, DRACHHAUSEN

5)    Friederich, KRAUTZ, son, b. 2 Dec 1889, DRACHHAUSEN

Married in Drachhausen, 21 May 1888, Martin KRAUTZ, was born in DOBBRICK; a village that may have since disappeared, near DRACHHAUSEN.  Other KRAUTZ family can be found at about the same time being born in WILLEMSDORF, a tiny village, slightly north of COTTBUS. His wife, Anna LEHMANN was born 17 Jan 1863, in DRACHHAUSEN, to Martin LEHMANN and Liese SCHULTZE. They have one child prior to their marriage and have two more that are recorded in the DRACHHAUSEN church books, afterward.

They apparently immigrate to FORT MADISON, IOWA, where they have at least two more children:

1)    William F. KRAUTZ, born 9 Jan 1895

2)    Johann Christian “John” KRAUTZ, born 7 Jan 1897,

Johann’s birth record is found in the records of St John’s United Church of Christ in FORT MADISON, IA, while his older brother’s is not. The family’s ship, nor their location has not been not found in the US or Iowa census, so their immigration date could have been as early as 1890.

The two older boys registered for the draft in World War I. On 5 June 1918, John shows he is single, living with his mother Anna at 919 Metropolitan Avenue, in LEAVENWORTH, KS, where John works with for Vogel Box Company.  The 22 year old William has oddly filled out a slightly different form, on 5 June 1917; states he is a printer at Times Publishing Company, single, does not reveal any information about the parents, but shows the same address.
