KRAUTZ

1)    Anna KRAUTZ, 21, b about 1870

Anna KRAUTZ is found in the St John’s Evangelical Church records, in FORT MADISON, IOWA, as a 21 year old daughter of Matthias KRAUTZ and Anna ZUCH of TURNOW, a village near DRACHHAUSEN, BRANDENBURG, GERMANY.

She is marrying non Wend, Adam OPPENHEIMER, of Grasheim, Germany, on 20 October, 1891. Her immigration date has not been found. Due to her young age and being female, it is likely she is very new in this country

Her brother Wilhem is listed on the same page of the same church books, marrying Wend, Anna MUSCHICK on 5 May 1891. He had immigrated in 1889, with 15 other Wends.

Anna KRAUTZ and Adam OPPENHEIMER had 6 more children while living the FORT MADISON area, the children were ½ Wendish:

1)    Emma Lena OPPENHEIMER, 26 Aug 1892

2)    Alfred Edmund OPPENHEIMER, 31 Aug 1894

3)    Edna Dorothea OPPENHEIMER, 29 Jan 1897

4)    Elwin OPPENHEIMER, Feb 1900

5)    Eda OPPENHEIMER1904

6)    Adolph OPEPENHEIMER 1906

Adam is listed as a blacksmith in the 1900 census, living on Front Street in FORT MADISON, IOWA.

KRAUTZ

Born in Turno, Brandenburg, Germany, in March of 1870, Anna KRAUTZ is believed to have immigrated to FORT MADISON, IOWA around the age of 19, in 1899. She may been going to visit her brother Friedrick Wilhelm KRAUTZ, who immigrated earlier.

According to St. John’s church records, she married at 21 years old, in 1891, to Adam Oppenheimer, a Blacksmith and immigrant from Grashiem, Germany, in 1888.

They had 6 children in FORT MADISON:

     1) Emma Lena KRAUTZ, 26 Aug 1892

     2) Alfred Edmund KRAUTZ, 31 Aug 1894

     3) Edna Dorothea KRAUTZ, 29 Jan 1897

     4) Elwin KRAUTZ, Feb 1900

     5) Eda KRAUTZ, 1904

     6) Adoph KRAUTZ, 1906

Anna apparently dies between 1906 and 1910, because Adam shows as a widower in that census. He is a blacksmith for the railroad, as is his son Adolph. Adam remarries by 1930.
