SCHLODDER was a bachelor,
who fathered an illegitimate child. The child, Martin
BARTELL, was born on 15
November, 1833. The mother was listed as Maria
BARTELL. Later in life, son
Martin takes the name of RIESE.

SCHLODDER has been found
documented in five places, 1) his son’s birth, 2) Paper’s leaving
Drachhausen in 1863, 3) Canadian Census, 1871, in Renfrew North
District, Wilberforce sub-district, 4) possibly listed as Martin
REESE,
“Grandfather,” on the 1880 Iowa Fed Census, living with his son
(though birth year is 8 years older) and
5) Burial in the Clemons Cemetery, Minerva Township, Marshall County
Iowa, 14 October, 1889. It is not known if he went to When his child
marries, 26 Nov 1856, the child’s name is recorded as: Martin
RIESE, born BARTELL.
He is noted to be the son of Maria
BARTELL, but it is his
“Guardian” who has given
permission for him to marry. The guardian’s name is not given. This
certainly implies he was not raised by his biological father, Matthes
SCHLODDER, who is not
mentioned.
Family records
in this country, indicate that Martin
RIESE (born 1833) was the
child of Christian RIESE,
